An accountant who became a navigator was aboard Beechcraft BH100 when it was lost on a flight from Rockcliffe, Ontario to Patricia Bay, BC.

James Gerard Flaherty, born in Toronto, was the son of John E. Flaherty and Sarah Meany. He had a brother, John, also with the RCAF. James was an accountant prior to his enlistment with the RCAF as a navigator.

Aboard Beechcraft HB100 travelling from Rockcliffe to Patricia Bay via Winnipeg and Lethbridge, the crew of four were lost over the mountains east of Vancouver: Pilot, P/O Harry Donkersley, Navigator S/L James Gerard Flaherty, passenger S/L Terence Pringle (RAFVR) from Northern Ireland, and WAG P/O Ernest Sowerby.
